href="https://unsplash.com">Unsplash

A Departure from Formality

This post is a more direct, off-the-cuff reflection rather than a heavily researched piece. There comes a point where excessive analysis of social patterns can obscure the obvious reality staring us in the face.

The Damaging Legacy of “Orientalism”

My previous post critiqued oversimplified attacks on Western culture, many of which originate from Edward Said. While his book Orientalism is a notable read, its thesis is profoundly misguided. It has inflicted immense damage by framing Western history as a uniquely evil force of global pillaging. This rhetoric has infiltrated Western education, teaching students to view their own history primarily through a lens of persecution—a gross distortion of the truth.

The Civilizing Force of Western Colonialism

The historical record tells a different story. The 19th-century British Empire, for all its flaws, brought unprecedented order and progress to much of the world. Consider its legacy:

It was a leading force in ending slavery.

It exported Enlightenment ideals and liberal democracy.

It built lifesaving infrastructure across continents.

It created opportunities for advancement, such as education at world-class universities, for people who otherwise would have had none.

The romantic idea of a peaceful, pre-colonial world is a fantasy. Global history was brutal long before European expansion. Victims of violence could be found everywhere:

Non-Muslims living as second-class Dhimmis under Ottoman rule.

Subjects of the warring Iroquois Nation in America.

Tribes massacred by rivals in Africa

And much more demonstrating that colonialism was not exclusively Western

What set Western colonialism apart was its foundation in Enlightenment principles and its vehicle for spreading them: Christianity.

A Fundamental Contrast: Christianity vs. Islam

This brings me to my central argument: the core export of these two civilizations is fundamentally different.

Christianity historically spread as a movement of peace through cultural conversion. Before 600 AD, the Middle East was predominantly Christian.

Islam, in contrast, was spread through conquest. The term “Islam” means “submission to God,” and as its founder, Muhammad, was a warlord, the religion was from its inception a call to submit to his authority. A religion born of conquest naturally perpetuates a culture of tribalism and violence.

The Incompatibility We Refuse to Acknowledge

Therefore, the violence wrought by Islamic extremism in the West—from terror threats closing Christmas markets in Europe, to assassinations of Jews worldwide, to the suppression of victims in the UK’s Pakistani grooming gang scandals—should not surprise us. We are witnessing the logical outcome of a cultural clash that our leaders refuse to honestly address.

The simple, uncomfortable truth is that some cultures are incompatible with Western liberal ideals. The primary example is Islam. One can be an American or European who practices Islam, but one cannot uphold Islamist values—which demand supremacy and submission—and simultaneously uphold the pluralistic values of the West. We have no one to blame but ourselves and our leaders for ignoring this reality. If you think Bondi Beach is the end, the ignorant hoards and masses of brainless right and left wing morons touting Palestinian rhetoric will not stop at the Jewish people and they have already been working to tear down the West.

Giving History Context

Understanding the Philosophies of Western civilization is the primary villain in a global story of exploitation—a narrative of guilt dating back centuries. But is this accusation justified? Are the nations that birthed the Renaissance, the Enlightenment, and modern liberal democracy truly the root of the world’s ills?

We are told the West invented slavery and constructed race as a tool of oppression, concepts that supposedly didn’t exist before. We are encouraged to shoulder a unique burden of guilt for historical injustices. As with many things, the truth has been stretched, exaggerated, or replaced with outright falsehoods. In the rush to atone for the past, we risk smothering the legacies of the great men and women who built a world of unprecedented freedom and prosperity.

So, what is driving this seismic shift in perspective? How have we moved from idolizing the heroes who defended our freedoms to apologizing for our very history? This post is the first in a series that will explore the mechanisms behind this change. We’ll begin by examining the intellectual engine of this movement: Critical Race Theory. Future installments will dissect the role of early childhood education, media, entertainment, and foreign influence in promoting anti-Western ideals.

The Unmatched Legacy of the West

Let’s be clear: Western philosophy has been history’s most powerful beacon for equal rights and human dignity. While no civilization is without sin, the West has consistently worked to rectify its wrongs—abolishing slavery, championing human rights, and defeating totalitarian regimes. Meanwhile, practices like modern-day slavery and genocide persist unabated in many non-Western contexts.

Many of the atrocities still attributed to the West collapse under scrutiny of empirical evidence. Preserving the West’s core ideals—individualism, reason, and liberty—is not just a matter of pride; it is a bulwark against a slide into a new global dark age.

The Ideological Playbook: Critical Race Theory

The primary driver of this cultural shift is the dominance of Marxist-derived ideologies within our most prestigious academic institutions. From this ecosystem, Critical Race Theory (CRT) has emerged as a particularly potent force.

What is CRT? Popularized in the late 20th century, CRT insists that race is the fundamental lens through which all societal power structures must be viewed. It argues that our institutions are not merely flawed, but are inherently and permanently racist, designed to maintain oppression. It operates on “Constructivist” principles, where “lived experience” and perceived attitudes trump data and reason. To question a personal narrative is itself labeled an act of racism. This is eerily reminiscent of Orwell’s 1984, where the Party declares that 2+2=5.
